martha rich freedom wig extended..
paintings from december 2007.
often times you come across an artist and all you are able to see is their work. which is awesome, i'm not complaining. but sometimes, you stumble upon an artist and not only does their work shine through but so does their personality. martha rich is that kind of artist. when you visit her websites or blog you can feel her wonderful sense of humor, wit and convictions. take her introduction on her freedom wig site:
welcome to freedomwig, my one-painting-a-day website. freedomwig is the name of a real wig. i named the site after a wig because wigs can either make you feel like someone else or make you feel normal. the art on this site is like that. not everyone will get me. if you do, that is excellent, you are the coolest, if not there's nothing i can do for ya. you'll probably just have to get your art from walmart.
well, i get you martha. i hear you barkin' big dog. i feel you, i do. when looking at martha's work you can sense an honest to goodness realness that comes over loud and clear, not shouty like, just vivid and understood. it's this sort of honesty and dead pan humor that makes martha's work so rad.
paintings from september 2007.
in november of 2006, martha started making a painting a day. you can visit her freedom wig website where each painting is on display (and available for purchase, although much has sold, duh.). martha's use of color is unabashed and her subjects vary from diamonds to televisions to ladies in bikinis. i love what she writes under each painting. i think my favorite is floaty man heads. not to mention she refrences thomas kinkade and getting waxed under one explanation of a painting, which i personally feel is ironic genius on her part.
paintings from july 2007.
it's amazing to scroll through each painting knowing she did one each and every day for a yr. her plan was to stop in october of this yr, to complete the yr long project however plans have changed. yay! she has extended it to coincide w/ her new show at la luz de jesus gallery in la; imitation snakeskin superstore.
paintings from april 2007.
in imitation snakeskin superstore martha examines what it is like to be a female w/ out a maternal role model (martha's mom died when she was a teenager from cancer.), exploring issues of identity, femininity and just being real. the show opens the 4th of january.
oh, and if you need some more of martha for your very own, pick up her book freedom wigs. i think it's still available from murphy design.
paintings from december 2006.

The Right Cleaning Contractor
When it comes to cleaning contractors in Melbourne there are many choices. It might just seem like you can open the phone book or look on the internet and you will instantly know who the right person for the job is. The truth is, you need to put a little more thought into getting the right
cleaning contractors in Melbourne. You want a company that has completed a background check, fully trains their staff and is fully insured. This means your office will be getting the best treatment possible all for a price you can afford.
Difficult Offices
When you have dangerous chemicals and clean rooms you need to know you are going to get the right cleaners each and every time. Cleaning Dudes has a strict training policy meaning that no one comes to clean your office unless they have had three supervised training visits. This ensures that things are done right. In addition, they will always be in uniform and they have all been police checked. There is nothing to worry about when it comes to safety or security in your office building.
Disruption
Most cleaning contractors in Melbourne work after hours so that you don’t have to be disrupted by the service. That is great on the surface but it means that you have no one there watching them or watching out for your office. This is whey you need a company you can trust. As a fully insured company, Cleaning Dudes guarantees the safety of your office as well as their work. It is all about peace of mind and great cleaning.
Look into cleaning contractors in Melbourne and compare the results with the price. You are sure to end up considering and hiring Cleaning Dudes, they won’t disappoint.

Friends Forever!.
Every time Julia Sonmi Heglund designs a new t-shirt, never fail, I want it. Her latest, Friends Forever, is awesome and I just couldn't say no to it. I mean how could I? Could you? Plus, I'd like to believe that it is my own silent attempt at not wanting to say goodbye to the summer. (I am a genius of rationalizing purchases mind you, need help? Contact me.) Anyhow, what reminds you most of summer other than friendship bracelets, camp and BFF's 4-eva? Awww, come back to me summer.

Studio Visit Shelley Reed..
A few weeks ago I stopped by Shelley Reed's studio here in Boston. We had been trying to schedule a studio visit for months so it was great to finally get to meet with her. We talked for a while and ate super yummy croissants. It was such an inspiring visit for me. Shelley was in the middle of working on a beautiful body of work for her upcoming solo show. As I sat with Shelley it was hard to not be overwhelmed with the beauty and detail in her paintings. They're exquisite. I think you will enjoy them as much as I did.
Something is amiss amidst all this beauty and delight opens at Sears Peyton Gallery in New York City on May 6th. It should be said that I had a hard time choosing what pictures to post, you can see the whole studio visit on flickr. More images after the jump.
Shelley has files and files of saved images. It was hard to not get lost in them...
So many incredible books!

Jill Bliss Garlands..
Oh, I love this. Jill Bliss had a show back in 2008 (which I covered - way back when the columns were much smaller!) and the ribbon garldands that decorated the show were lost in a warehouse. They were finally returned this past November, 3 years later! So Jill turned that frown upside down and now they're ready for you in her shop!
I remember seeing the pictures for the show (above with the beautiful Saelee Oh) and thinking ooooh, I like those...
